Happy New Year From NYC!

Hello! (first post in 2011!)
This year I was able to spend New Years with my family in NYC! So many photos but here are the highlights of my trip!

Dec 30th:
We ended up sitting in first class! Here is the sky before take-off

The first course!

Dec 31st:
arrived at my Grandma's house at 1:30am! New Years Eve, nice night in with my family

Later that evening she made Sancocho! It's a meaty and vegetable-y stew

The sancocho was followed by an ice cream cake! Vanilla with chocolate cake.

Jan 1st:
Busy day around town! We were total tourists! Central Park, Radio City, Rockefeller Center, Broadway...

Central Park! Snow covered and decorated with multiple little snowmen! Very proud of myself, I marched through the whole city and slush in 3 inch high heeled boots!

Time Square! The confetti from the ball drop was still all over the pavement!

Jan 2nd:
The last day in town we saw the musical American Idiot with guest star Billie Joe Armstrong! It was my first broadway show and it was absolutely amazing! I also cruised into the M.A.C. store (more to follow in a future post) and later visited the Mandarin Hotel!

Here are dessert lollipops from the Mandarin Hotel! Beautiful lounge on the 35th floor with a gorgeous view of the city! The left pop is a chocolate mousse, the center is a caramel cream and the right is a New York cheesecake. I also highly recommend the Pomme Royal! Tasty fruity mock-tail with a cinnamon rim!

I hope everyone has a great start to their new year! :)
Much love,
Miss Mia

Micabella. Magic?

Hey!
Ever been attacked in the mall by the miniature stores on wheels? Well a little while back I was just browsing through the mall when I was asked if I wore eyeshadow. I get this a lot since I don't wear very much make up and when I do I wear mostly neutral tones (fairly boring indeed). In a matter of seconds the saleswoman pulled out a few colors and began her pitch. A brown eyed girl like me usually gets told to go for well... browns yet she was telling me to go for olive green or "reluctance" as it is titled:
She mixed a little of this mineral powder with water and used it to line my lid. The color was incredible. While it looked beautiful with my brown eyes it also sparkled like mad. This particular color has a gold glitter shimmer to it and it really picks up the light! I was amazed at how highly pigmented the product was. Then she went on to tell me that this powder can be used at least 8 ways!

1. eyeliner: when mixed with a smidge of water this powder becomes a liquid liner
2. eyeshadow: by itself or lightly dampen your eyeshadow brush for a cream shadow effect
3. MASCARA! Mix the powder with a little clear mascara and you can color your lashes
4. cheek color: clearly not with this olive green shade... unless you really want to. Not my style though
5. lip color: mix with vaseline for custom lip color! Again, this olive color is not necessarily my first choice for this use
6. nails: mix with clear nail polish
7. Body shimmer: dust it on dry or mix with aloe.
8. Hair color: You can make colorful streaks with a little aloe or hair gel

Great product so far!
Pro's:
highly pigmented
great for longwear. The eyeliner the sales rep put on me lasted through a whole night of dancing!
super shimmery
multiple uses

Con's:
A little messy. When working with this product as eyeshadow I had a lot of fall out. Highly recommend applying your foundation after your eyes,
A little pricey, about $15 for one. BUT I got a great deal! Buy 2 get one free! Buy 4 get 4 free!

My friend and I split the buy 4 get 4 deal. So we payed for 2 each (just $30) and got 2 for free each!

I chose the green "reluctance"  (pictured above)

a bronzed gold "carnival"                  a purpley brown "decadence"                  silver glitter "silver glitter"

For Christmas Eve I wore the bronze gold on my lid and filled the outer "v" with the olive green. Very sparkly, loved it! Lasted all night at a holiday party and by the time I came home my make-up looked just as it had after I applied it! The purpley brownish color is really pretty and the glitter is a little tricky. For the silver glitter it has to be used with another medium in order to stick.

Hope you enjoyed this review! No I do not work for this Micabella company, just a happy user of their eyeshadows :)
Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

It's December 24th! Christmas Eve! I have one more gift left to wrap and one more holiday party this evening. One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the gift wrapping! I like to make my gifts look as pretty as possible. Here is some of my inspiration:

I just love the big ribbon bows which make it totally girly and the ornaments which make it a little more festive!

Top reason for loving this wrapping: it reminds me of Tiffany & Co. :)

Love the Damask! The gold pine cones, pointsettia and berries spruce up the year round paper with some festive cheer.

The best part about this gift wrap is that it works year round (minus the pine). It reminds me of Anthropologie. Very simple and elegant.

Have a very MERRY Christmas!
Love,
Miss Mia
